Swimming without Stress holidays were the first residential courses of their kind – intensive one to one lessons with the Alexander Technique. Ian and Cheryl Cross have taught hundreds of individuals and couples to swim or improve their swimming through this course. The course runs throughout the year (Welsh term-time only).
"Thought I'd drop you some feedback while it is still fresh in my mind, although you both reinforced your teaching so well I doubt if I will ever forget the technique. You will be pleased to hear that I really nailed the crawl on Friday, I managed to finally let the legs go and my timing and power in the glide just fell in to place, with my head really leading, the forward movement was quite amazing.... All down to you guys, I can't thank you enough for your patience and expertise. After so many years spent working in water, I thought I was at home there, but you guys have taught me how to really chill.... Thank you." Ian, Cirencester
I wanted to thank you both for showing me how, at last, to feel at ease and safe in the water. I ended the week on a high and for the first time, believing that I could in fact swim. Quite an achievement for someone who had been dubbed a phobic by another swimming instructor. I'm now looking forward to practising my new-found skills and just being able to enjoy. I feel that your calmness, patience and belief in your teaching method was what ultimately made the difference. It was well worth the journey from London! Michelle, Middlesex

The Benefits explained
1.The Lessons
Individual attention with no spectators enables you to go at your own pace. Groups are inevitably made up of people with different abilities, which may be intimidating or frustrating.
Whatever your level, The Alexander Technique will help you to improve your relationship with the water. Hands on guidance and support, with the teacher in the water, promotes release of unnecessary tension and encourages you to find the support of the water. The Alexander Technique also helps you learn new movement patterns as you discover the importance of the head/ neck/ back relationship for coordination and breathing. One introductory AT lesson is recommended for people taking the full weekday course and further dry-land AT lessons may be arranged.
Usually when people learn to swim, their fear of water produces unnecessary tension in every new movement they learn. Our approach encourages you to prevent unnecessary tension in order to learn to swim properly. The Alexander principle suggests that there is limited value in attempting to co ordinate swimming strokes until you've learned to let go in the water and trust it to support you.
2.Intensive Structure
When learning weekly, momentum can be lost. With intensive, individual lessons, you can make a lot of progress in a short space of time.
As well as the standard weekly course of eight 45-minute lessons, we offer a limited number of weekend and long-weekend breaks. One hour lessons for couples sharing and also for more advanced swimmers are also available.
3.The Pools
We have exclusive use of the warm, same-depth pools, ensuring quietness and complete privacy.
4. Beautiful Coastal Location
Cardigan is the gateway to the stunning Pembrokeshire National Park, with 180 miles of coastal path and the even less explored Preseli mountains, and Cardigan Bay, with its high population of bottlenose dolphins, easily spotted from lovely Mwnt beach.
" Thank you for the truly inspiring lessons you gave me recently. I arrived in Cardigan hoping that I would make some improvement, but a little sceptical that much could be achieved in four days. But the result seems little short of magical. I have moved from thrashing about anxiously to calm, slow movements - I even go willingly into the deep end, which I would not do before. Thank you again for enabling me to achieve a real change in my relationship with the water." Pam, Hertfordshire
